Story

As your heart rate slows after your run in with the Anaconda and you get closer to the shore the light flickers through the canopy. You take your pack off and lay it down in the cool flickering light. The bright colours of your pack start to rock and flicker but in a way against the light from above. You lean down and notice it’s a shape that is moving and  blending in to the colourful pack, a Chameleon. The bobbing back and forth is mesmerising as it slowly looks for lunch.

Inspiration

The chameleon is a lizard I fell in love with from a young age going through the nature books my grandmothers had given me. From dusty farms of the Rock and the lands of Wagga the palette was always very mute browns and yellows. Seeing this bright lizard “grandma look at this”! “You know it can change to any colour of the rainbow” “no way grandma!!
I was obsessed, I wanted to try and hide the lizard but always feature it, which doesn't necessarily go well together. I feel having the scaled texture of and then the lizard outlined works well. I couldn’t not add the colours of the rainbow. The quote was from a joke I heard a long time ago. Did you hear about boy George’s lizard that bit someone? Turns out he needs a calmer chameleon!!
